Notice periods and the cancellation deadline
Your cancellation deadline is the renewal date minus the notice period - the last day you can give notice before the contract auto-renews.
The cancellation deadline is the single most important date in StackTrackr. It is the last day you can give notice to walk away before a contract renews, and it is the date teams most often miss.
StackTrackr calculates it for you: it takes the renewal date and subtracts the notice period in days. A renewal on 1 December with a 60-day notice period gives a cancellation deadline of 2 October. Miss that, and you are usually committed to another term.
Two things need to be present for the deadline to appear. You need a renewal date, and you need a notice period greater than zero. If either is missing, StackTrackr cannot work out a deadline and will not show one, so it is worth filling both in for anything with a real exit clause.
On the software record the deadline is called out in its own highlighted panel, labelled as the last day to give notice, with a badge showing how many days away it is. That prominence is deliberate - it is the date you want to act on.
The deadline drives more than the display. When a tool auto-renews and the deadline is close, the record moves into the Notice window state and reminders can fire specifically for the deadline, not just the renewal.
If your contract states a notice period as weeks or months, convert it to days before entering it. The calculation is purely in days, so a two-month notice period is best recorded as the exact number of days your contract specifies.
