Auto-renew: on or off, and what changes

The auto-renew setting tells StackTrackr whether a contract renews itself unless you act, or whether it simply lapses. It is a yes or no flag on each record, and it quietly changes several behaviours.

With auto-renew on, StackTrackr treats a passed renewal date as a rolled-over term rather than an expiry. The calculated renewal date steps forward by whole billing cycles to the next real renewal, and a record whose renewal date has slipped by stays Active rather than turning Overdue.

Auto-renew on also unlocks the Notice window state and the cancellation-deadline alerts. Because the contract will renew unless you give notice, StackTrackr watches the deadline closely and flags the record when the decision point is near.

With auto-renew off, nothing rolls forward. The calculated renewal date stays equal to the stored renewal date. Once that date passes with the tool still marked active, the record is treated as Overdue, prompting you to make a renewal decision rather than assuming one was made for you.

One-off purchases behave like auto-renew off for rolling purposes: there is no recurring term, so the date never advances.

A good habit is to set auto-renew to match the contract itself, not your intentions. Even if you plan to cancel, leaving it on where the contract truly auto-renews ensures the cancellation deadline and its reminders are calculated and surfaced.
