Assigning software to a customer

Record which customer each piece of purchased software is applied to, and manage your customer list under Settings so you can report spend by customer.

A customer in StackTrackr is whoever a piece of purchased software is applied to. It works exactly like a business unit: a short, reusable label you set up once and then attach to any tool. If you resell software, run projects for clients, or simply want to see which account a subscription belongs to, this is the field that captures it.

You manage the list under Settings, on the Customers page. Type a name (for example Acme Ltd) and choose Add customer. You can rename a customer in place at any time, and the change flows through to every tool linked to it. Deleting a customer leaves its tools in place - they simply lose the link and keep their last label as plain text - so removing a customer never removes software.

To apply a customer to a tool, open the tool's form and look in the Ownership and commercials section. Just below Business unit there is a Customer dropdown. Pick an existing customer, or choose the plus option to jump to the Customers page and add a new one, then come back and select it. Leave it as No customer if a tool is for internal use.

Assigning customers pays off in Reports. On the Expenditure report you can break your annualised spend down by Customer, so you can see at a glance how much software cost sits behind each account. It is the same grouping the report offers for Vendor, Owner, Category and Business unit, so mixing and matching is a single click.

Only workspace admins can add, rename or delete customers, but any member can assign an existing customer to a tool. Like everything in your workspace, your customer list is private to your account and never visible to other companies.
