The tool meter and the trial banner
How the tool meter in the navigation counts your tools against your plan, and what the trial and tool-limit banners across the top of the app mean.
Two small pieces of the app keep you aware of where you stand on your plan without opening Plan & billing: the tool meter at the foot of the left-hand navigation, and a slim banner that can appear across the top of every page.
The tool meter sits just above the language switcher and your name. On a smaller screen it is inside the menu. It shows the number of tools you have against your plan's limit, for example 8 / 10 tools, with a thin bar underneath. The bar is your normal accent colour, turns amber once you have used 80% of the allowance, and turns red when you reach it. On a plan with no tool limit there is no bar: the meter simply reads, for example, 8 tools · Unlimited. Manage plan, beside the figure, takes you to Plan & billing.
The count is every tool on your account, whatever its status. Archived, cancelled and expired tools all count, because StackTrackr treats every record as a retained asset, so deleting a tool is the only thing that lowers the number. The one exception is the example record placed in a new account, which is never counted. The same meter appears in a larger form on Plan & billing, under Usage, with a line telling you how many tools you have left or that you have reached your limit.
While your account is on its 14-day free trial, a banner across the top of each page counts down the days, for example 9 days left of your Growth trial, with a See plans link to Plan & billing. In the last three days it turns amber, and on the final day it reads Your Growth trial ends today. The trial gives every account the Growth plan's features and limits, which is why the banner names Growth and why the meter measures you against 50 tools until the trial ends.
If you reach your plan's tool limit, a red banner takes the place of the trial notice. It says you have reached the limit, names the number, reminds you that cancelled tools still count, and offers an Upgrade link to Plan & billing. At the limit everything you already have keeps working, but you cannot add another tool until you upgrade or delete one.
Either banner can be closed with the cross on its right. That hides it for the rest of your visit, and it comes back the next time you open or reload the app, as long as the reason for it still applies. Going over the limit is different: if a downgrade or the end of the trial leaves you with more tools than your plan allows, these banners give way to the over-limit notice described in What happens if you exceed your plan's tool limit, and that one cannot be dismissed.
