Scheduling a future price change

Record a price rise before it lands - a new amount or a percentage uplift - and StackTrackr applies it on its effective date and keeps a full audit trail.

Vendors usually tell you about a price rise weeks or months before it takes effect, often at renewal. Rather than trying to remember, you can record the new figure the moment you hear about it. StackTrackr then applies it automatically on the day it takes effect, so your forecasts stay honest and the increase never catches you out at billing time.

You will find Price changes at the bottom of a tool's Ownership and commercials section. Like the licence key and seats panel, it is tucked behind a show and hide toggle and stays hidden until you open it, so the page stays tidy for the common case where nothing is scheduled. Open it and add a price change.

There are two ways to describe the change. Enter a new fixed price if the vendor has quoted an exact figure, or enter a percentage increase (for example 8 percent) if all you have is an uplift. Either way you set the effective date - the day the new cost should start to apply. Once you add it, the change appears in the list below with its resulting cost worked out for you, so there is no guesswork.

Nothing is destructive. The tool keeps its current cost until the effective date arrives; the change simply waits in that dated list, each entry showing the cost it will become on its effective date. When a change falls due, the app promotes it to the tool's live cost the next time anyone opens the register, dashboard or reports, and marks it as applied - so the list doubles as an audit history of what each cost went from and to. You can remove a change any time before it takes effect, and add a corrected one in its place.

Scheduled changes do more than update one number. They feed the forecasts across Reports: the cashflow curve, the annual-spend figures and especially the Spend over time report, which projects your spend line forward using every change you have queued. Recording a known increase today is the quickest way to make next year's budget realistic.

One thing to expect when two people are working at once. Because a due change is promoted the next time anyone opens the register, dashboard or reports, it can land while somebody else has that tool's edit form open in another tab. If they then type a different cost and save, StackTrackr will not quietly overwrite the promoted figure: the save is refused and the message tells them what the price is now, so they can reload and decide whether their change still applies. If they did not touch the cost at all, there is nothing to resolve - the promoted figure stands and the rest of their edits save as normal.
